most people get a lawyer and the lawyer knows the law and can plea bargain or do some legal stuff and get a reduced sentance..justice depends too much on what the judge is feeling..some walk out and other have to go to jail..the systme is not fair to all..especially the victime of drunk driving...the punishment should be equal to all people with or without money

THey are too soft. I was just in a chat room with someone who kept saying how proud they were for drunk driving and didn't care who got hit. People like that should spend their lives in jail.

Drunk drivers should be punished. They are not only endangering themselves but also the lives of other people. So many innocent people on the road will be affected once the drunk driver meets an accident. I saw this episode on Oprah about a lady in her teens who's car was hit by a drunk driver. The car burst into flames and so was her body. She's an only child. Her parents are rich and influential in their country. She went to college, she can do everything she wants as her parents could afford it, had a modelling job offer... in short, that lady's future was going to be bright. However, all of these ended because of a reckless teenage drunk driver. The driver was imprisoned. The lady survived but got second and third degree burns in her body. She undergone alot of operations just to survive. Her body was disfigured, her face was unrecognizable and looked so much the opposite of her beautiful face before the incident. Her future has rumbled. How can she have a bright future when most of the time, she had to go to the hospital for her burn treatments and plastic surgery ? Most of all, how about the emotional stress and depression that she was feeling ? How about her parents ? All those dreams for her that were shattered ? Alot of things that a person should consider before drunk driving. The person responsible was so sorry for what had happened but the damage has been done. He may have regreted everything but we can't turn back time. He shattered the girl's future and also his own.

Yes I think they need to creat greater punishment for drunk drivers, they get off too easy and many people are still doing it.

I think It's bad. Too many accidents happens from the result of driving while intoxicated. But you know what is worst. PEOPLE THAT CANNOT DRIVE WHILE TALKING ON THEIR CELL PHONES. some people suck at driving as it is and it just makes it worst while they are on the phone.

The sentences are too soft, and it takes too long to prosecute someone who killed someone while drinking and driving. My friend's cousin was killed a couple years ago by a drunk driver and the kid who killed him is still free. That isn't right! I don't understand how some people think that it's ok to drink and then drive. They put to many lives at risk.
