People dread calls because they feel they're on the spot. Here are some effective phone manners to make you confident to answer calls. STAND UP - your voice will be more enrgetic. DON'T CRADLE THE RECEIVER - Instead hold it 8 centimeters away from your mouth. You'll sound less muffled and more like you're there in person. JUST TALK - Don't use phone time to open mail or type. Not only is it obvious to the other person that you're distracted, but one study found that multitasking reduces your ability to listen. TAKE A PAUSE - If you get flustered, simply stop talking and collect yourself. Silence is better than "ums" and "ahs" because it projects thoughtfulness, not confusion.
