Being an Indian, I feel that we Indians dont have the same level of patriotism towards our country as our ancestors had. We relish the freedom given to us by our freedom fighters half a century ago, following the path of Ahimsa and non-violence. Do you think that people of your country are having the same patriotic feelings towards your country as it was a century ago? We have come a long way now, after the two major wars.

We are a secular state. Two commuities, are exploiting this,by trying to dominate, the majority Hindus, collaborating with religious and espionage agencies of foreign counries,by pointing out flaws in our majority community, all the while forgetting many of their own. We are also being culturally invaded and our ancient values are being shattered. The respect for elders, which is the most admiarble thing,in Eastern cultures,is vanishing. Human Greed,is the other one. Many Indians are being purchased ,by foreign nations. Many Indian leaders, are also, willing to sell our country, the Left to China, one particular community,to Gulf nations, like Saudi Arabia, and another to the west.

well u guyz r absolutely ryt...but me being frm the new generation u cn say tht with times pple change...we r actually tryin to adopt the so called western culture but u still find pple who still hv the basic values imbibed in them by their parents...which is not a great number...but the main reason fr not feelin patriotic towards our country can b attributed to the fact tht thr is too much communalism in our country of which the blame cn b attributed to our great politicians...but still thr maybe hope if we tend to bring a change among ourselves n the pple around us

indian flag! - look up to it!
indians dont have the patriotism our ancestors had because of our current leaders! if our leaders were like the leaders our ancestors had im sure our perspective would be different!most people i meet i dont see the connection between them and their country, its like they dont feel like they belong to their country!:P

What you are saying is true. Before Independence our motto was only one to get independence. But ruling nobody knew. They just adopted what was in British and American culture. This donot us because our people donot understand the word democracy of election. Today our country is ruled by rascals who are not patriots of our country. They mess up too many things, create disturbances, build difference in caste, colour and creed, no value for education and intelligents. Still I can keep on writing. But I am fed up of writing on our country politicians who donot deserve to be called human beings and are only devils. Hence I donot want to write anything more about these devils.

INDIAN TRICOLORS - indian flag and its tricolors
i agree with you these politicians are the main reason for this sort of things. For their advantage they use regionalism, casteism what not everything and lastly religions also for they advantage. And these people give first priority to there castes, religions and regions rather than netion. Its very bad to see that day and day the youth is adopting westeern culture and forgetting our cultural heritage. Hope atleast the few indians living the indian way will continue

People who work for it or are a part of the movement which gets the freedom, relate to it better, than people listening to history. The other way , where most of the most other countries achieve this by compulsory national service. Hopefully India wud get there sometimes....

In the United States, patriotism seems to be somewhat hard to express honestly and with conviction, especially since not everyone agrees on what "patriotism" means. Americans, as much as it might surprise you in India and elsewhere, aren't all on the same wavelength politically, with some people on the far right saying that people who don't support President Bush, the war in Iraq, vote Republican, and believe in their Christian brand of religion are unpatriotic. Likewise, people on the other side of the argument say that people who support the President and his policies are unpatriotic. So no, I don't think people in the U.S. have the same outward patriotic feelings toward the nation as they did in the 1900s

even i think so. the reason could be that the generation of today have started to love foreign culture and foreign countries. good eg : increasing pizza shops, foreign style of dressing etc.... also most of them want to go abroad, study and settle there. this makes them less inclined towards our country. we should love our tradition, culture etc.. where ever we go se should carry them with us.our youngsters should understand the greatness of our tradition.

i dont blame that we are not suppose to consume foreign stuffs etc... but dont treat our tradition as a waste.. like i dont know what makes pizza so good because it does not taste good at all. compared to our traditional food like vada, samosa and all it is northing ,but there is a lot of craze for it. it is just foolishness. there are a lot of instanse like this.

well, like China,India is one of the most important countries in the globe, maybe it will take a long time for India to recover to the status it used to,but now it is developing more and more rapidly, but i believe India and China will become the stongest and most beautiful country, certainly will be superior to America or Japan in less than half a century!!!

I am only 16, so i can't really distribute. But i am patriotic; i feel that i should be proud of my country etc ! In belgium we have some problems now, we have 2 main areas : flemish one and wallonie : some people want 'vlaanderen' to be independent. Last week there was a fake documentary about this and now it has gotten worse.

I don't think the present generation of Indians are patriotic. Everyone thinks about their personal comfort and most of the general public (especially the ones in the upper bracket of society) are not bothered about what happens to the country. Even small things like keeping your neighbourhood clean is not their cup of tea. You find people throwing garbage all over the place (including metropolitan cities where people are supposedly educated). Anything imported must be better than anything Indian. The more you pay, the better it is. How many people you know would get goosebumps singing the national anthem? Do they know what it means?

I agree. We indians seem to take our freedom for granted.we just do not seem to care at all.We need to change our attitude.

Do not say this to any one. Do it, Do It, Do it Now All have lost only due to giving speach in forum, meetings for the nation. What you are doing neither you and your wife knows it. You think that by your action , your country is affected. Do not say this to any one.Do not write these also in books. Do it, Do It, Do it Now

india - can't trust government
i think this disrespect happens due to our politicians... if they themselves who are running the entire nation will not respect india then how come we can expect our younger generation to do the same...
