Does anyone use Dragon ( http://www.nuance.com/naturallyspeaking/ ) for voice recognition software? How’s it work? Is it decent? Does it work reliably for reading out papers as well as voice recognition?

Our office tried Dragon several years ago for dictations and it was horrible. Even with the proper "training" of the system to recognize our voices, there were so many errors that we ended up having the notes re-typed. We kept working with the sales reps. to re-train the system and kept giving it chances, but ended up scrapping it after several months. Unless they have made some major improvements, I would have to say to stay away from it.

Not personally, I haven't used it, but I've heard good things about it. David Pogue, a well known computer book author and a technology writer for the NY Times, has said that he's been using it to dicates his writings since he developed some kind of hand or wrist ailment (maybe RSI). I've heard that you have to speak slowly and cleraly for it to work. I don't know how it does reading out text.
