My husband and I are very particular about what we allow our children to watch on TV. Some of the shows we allowed when they were young were Sesame Street, Dragon Tales, Bear in the Big Blue House, Clifford the Big Red Dog and pretty much anything geared for children on our local public television channel. Now they are getting a little older and we are finding quality programming harder to come by. Please suggest good quality television shows for children and share the ages for which they would be most appropriate. Thanks in advance.

Well, besides the local public television channel, you have Nick Jr with Dora the Explorer and Diego. My daughter is 2 1/2 and loves watching both, and she also picks up some spanish that is being taught while watching these two programs. She also loves Backyardigans, Wonder Pets, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and most of the shows on Noggin. Noggin is really the best channel, because it has no commercials - love it! I don't let her watch Spongebob, since I think it's really stupid. She also likes Jimmy Neutron, but I'm not sure if it's for smaller kids. I don't know how old your kids are, but I think that Noggin has the best shows for preschoolers.

well education is must and TV shows too because i think children can't concentrate any more with out entertainment and i think if we dun allow them a tv so i think they can't enjoy it anymore i think allowed tv but in a limit not out of limit because if we dun stop it so it will always effect there education too and it is important and this is a really serious issue i think so we have to particular about it..and fix time for it,...and try to show them a educational programs too with entertainemnt..

I have three children - 7, 5, and 17 months. I primarily let them watch Noggin (Blue's Clues, Little Bear, Little Einsteins, etc). I also have a stash of dvd's that we pop in every so often. Although some parents don't let their children watch any primetime television, mine actually ask to see the news. They like to know "what's going on," and I find it a great opportunity for them, especially my 7 year old, to ask questions about things that they don't understand or that might concern them. Although I want to protect my children as much as possible, I also want them to be aware of real-world events. **We usually restrict their news to weather and local events.** You didn't mention how old your children are. I find that my oldest is starting to outgrow Noggin. She actually prefers old episodes of Flintstones and Looney Tunes, although many of those "old" cartoons are not very PC by today's standards. I might try visiting your library where you can check out videos and dvds. See what your children gravitate towards and then take it from there.

We too love Noggin and Sprout, but our children are 2 and 4. My 4 yr old is outgrowing several of the shows and having a hard time finding ones that I agree he can watch. Even most of the Disney movies aren't geared for young kids anymore with their adult jokes and all. he does like the Mickey Mouse club.
