Illegal to lend someone a hand??

is it true that it is illegal for someone to help out an illegal immigrant?

It is in my country Australia and anyone who employs an illegal immigrant and is caught will be charged with an offence and faces a heavy fine. It should be an offence as it is the same as abetting, and for example if you help someone commit a crime like robbery that is an offence. So helping someone to evade the law, in the case of an illegal immigrant that would be the immigration department officals, should also be classed as a criminal activity.

not really, people help them all the time... but you are not supposed to give them a job without proper papers here in US, and not help them to cross borders.
