Google sitemap queries

I use Traffic Blazer and it has a google sitemap creator. I built my site using Frontpage 2003. I made a sitemap but I do not know where to place it. It says to put it in the root directory but I dont know what that is. I made a new page and put it in there but that didnt work. I very simple terms, where do I put the sitemap?
