The very basic thing for being instrumental for development is devotion, time and unlimited efforts behind the child. Normally very few parents have time to play, learn and get involved with children. You need to participate in activities that help learning of various subjects with the child. Schedule of daily activities needs to be controlled and recorded. If you watch TV soap all day you cannot expect your children to study, you have to devote time and sacrifice your interest. Normally people bring work at home considering it worth but that is creating negative impact on children at home, you tend to become busy, you avoid their questions, you are one to one with their understanding. First of make a study of your child's interest, his/her attraction to various things. You can also increase their interest in specific field by exposing them continuously to that field like if you want you child to be expert in sports keep him involved in various sport activities all day, watch sports programs as often as possible, it is like hammering the concentrated field of power over them and you will find that they will increase their interest in that field. More often then not people do tend to ignore the talent in their kids and force them to their will which hampers the development of the child's brain. this is not a complete answer but can help you look for the direction.
