There have been so many fires this year in the US! And they seem to last forever and do such tremendous devastation! I was reading in the news this morning that wildfires in Australia have killed a lot of the wildlife http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061217/wl_afp/australiafiresanimalsenvironment I feel being a firefighter has to be the worst and most difficult job that there is!

I would imagine that fire fighting is more than just a job, it would take a very dedicated individual to continue taking the risks that are involved. The potential of large and dangerous fires is increasing every year due to global warming, because the forests and bush land become drier as the summer becomes hotter. There are many unsung heroes on this planet, such as fire fighters and lifeboat men who often lose their lifes in the protection of others.

I live in Victoria, Australia, and we have had another bad year this year, the wildlife, homes and even humanlife has been lost! We have a bad drought and need rain badly and are on harsh water restritions! Even our tanks are empty so it is very dry!

Wow...can't imagine...even when we are living in a "drought" year, we don't usually have to ration or restrict water usage. Only one time I can remember we had to quit watering our lawns to save water and that's not really a sacrifice. I'll help you pray for rain!

I think it is too. Poor firefighters, I really am happy that they're there when needed, though.

I live in Tasmania in Australia and we are experiencing some devastating bush fires at the moment. About 25 house were burned to the ground in one day only last week. Many of the people owned cafes or craft shops and so their income is gone as well as their homes. It is horrible. The wind has been and is today very strong too so that isn't helping the fire fighters any either. We live about 2 hours drive from where the worst of the fires are so hopefully they won't be too destructive over this way. There is so much wildlife in Tasmania (a lot of the state is national park)that it is so sad to see so many burned and their homes also destroyed.

I hope you remain safe! Despite the fact that you are so far away from me in the US, I will pray for your safety and the end to the fires. How scary it must be!

Yes this year is by far the worst here in OZ. Wejust don't get enough rain any more. Our firefighters are working no stop at the moment. DO you have any busfire photos you could send mefrom where you are.I am compiling a album of bushfire from around the world. If you can help just message me and I'll give you my email address.
