Isaac Asimov's "The Foundation" - Isaac Asimov's "The Foundation" original edition cover
I haven't read so much SF to say I have a favorite author. Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" Series, that I just finished reading, is a masterpiece. So is Frank Herbert's "Dune" (although I have only read The first 2 books) or Arthur C. Clarke's "Rama" series.
