The sicilian is a defense. Black is attacking the center from the c-file, thus creating an unbalanced pawn structure. It leads to sharp positions for both sides. I'd play it standard: e4, c5 Nf3, d6 d4, cxd4 Nf3xd4, Nf6 Nc3, g6 Be3, Bg7 Be2, Nc6 Hope that helps...

There are different variants in the sicilian,I play the scheveninger variant in it . e4 c5 Nf3 d6 d4 cd4 Nd4 Nf6 Nc3 e6 Be3 a6 Be2 Be7 0-0 0-0. you could have the dragon e4 c5 Nf3 d6 (normal)d4 cd4 Nd4 Nf6 Nc3 g6 Be3 Bg7 f3 e4 c5 Nf3 Nc6 (fast) d4 cd4 Nd4 g6 it could also be played : e4 c5 Nf3 Nc6 d4 cd4 Nd4 d6. And you have the closed sicilian e4 c5 Nc3 Some play it like that e4 c5 Nf3 d6 Bb5+.

No matter what the opening is, following the fundamental rules of chess will develop a defense and offense that gives you a position to give your opponent fits. Knights before bishops .. however, I violate this rule sometimes and move out the king's bishop first. But, I usually move out the king's knight within the next move or two. Secondly, do not move more than one or two pawns in the first 12 moves. If you move out too many pawns early on, your defenses are going to be weakened. Castle within the first 15 moves. But, don't castle too soon .. develop.
