Do you buy used items?

Have you ever gone to a "thrift store" or bought something on the net that was used?

I have bought many things at a thrift store. You would be surprised at what you can find. I have found brand new, tags on, clothes for my children there. There is no sense for me to spend $60 on a pair of jeans for my daughter that she is going to outgrow or ruin in a matter of a month. I am not poor, but I cannot afford all the cool "hip" clothes that the kids are wearing now adays. I also purchase my own clothes there as well since I'm not picky about what I wear as long as it is fairly new and not ruined. It's not that hard to find deals, but there are some stores that only have clothes that you can smell mothballs on. Those stores I will not shop in. I do buy clothes for everyone at normal stores too, but this is just a less expensive way to go.

I really appreciate your comment. I myself didn't think there was anything wrong with this however family members make fun of me for doing it. The truth is, I am a single mother of 3 and although I can afford some normal stores, I feel like I am getting a better deal here as they grow out of everything quick or ruin items(stains, rips, etc) By buying it this way I "panic less" because I know how cheap it was.

I have bought a lot of baby clothes for my Goddaughter off of EBay. I generally look for the ones that are listed as "new with tags", "new without tags", or "gently used". I have been lucky, because I have purchased several large "lots" from a single seller, and the clothes were listed as "gently used" and they were beautiful. No stains, rips, or tears. I guess it may be better to go to a thrift store, where you can see the item before you buy it. But on EBay you can also view the seller's ratings to get some idea of what they're all about. In the case of baby clothes, it just makes sense to "recycle" the clothes. They grow out of them so quickly!

Thank you for your comment. I haven't really looked on Ebay as I have looed there for some items in the past and saw alot were charging very large shipping fees for items which kind of made me worry. Maybe now I will check it out for some deals :) thank you.

You're right about some of the shipping charges. Look for the sellers who offer the shipping calculator for your zip code. They tend to be very fair- they'll charge the actual cost of shipping plus a very small amount for boxing, packaging, and taking to the post office.

Yes!!! I don't think there is anything wrong with buying second hand items. I guess I am on a tight budget and look for deals wherever I can. I buy household things like decorations and lamps and things. Those things get expensive! I don't buy clothes or shoes though. Some things you just need to buy new.

My favorite places to shop are the thrift stores. We have a Goodwill store in our town and I stop in at least once a week to check out what they have. Sometimes you luck out and find new items with the price tags still on them.

I have gone to thrift stores to buy clothes, and have also bought from ebay. I do give my clothes away to charity. Also I do not buy clothes if the store smells like mildew....I always wash the clothes before usage, even from ebay and even if they were new. Shame on your family for making fun of you....they should be more understanding.

Yes, I have bought items from thrift stores, some pieces of furniture like a wooden table, but mostly books and cd's, tapes etc.
