Dividend yield

I am reading Aswath Damodaran's "Investment Fables". The first chapter discuss abt investing in stocks with high dividend yield. Dividend yield = Dividend per share / Current market price. Can dividend income be equated with interest received from bonds? Can it be a safe investment like bond?
