I'm an admirer. Strangely, I've never liked "Tubular Bells" though. I mean, he was 17 when he created it so allowances must be made, but I found it clumsy and unsatisfying. But "Hergest Ridge" was something else again. On "Hergest" Mike's Englishness really comes to the fore with exquisite pastoral melodies reminiscent of Vaughan Williams, Delis et al. "Ommadawn" also worked very well for me; after which time I have to confess I lost track of Mike, with only one further album capturing my attention, "Tubular Bells 2"ingeniusly echoed its predecessor, while displaying a melodic and structural sophistication which the first in my opinion lacked. At his best, Mike Oldfield is a superb contemporary composer operating within the field of experimental Pop/Rock. I'd love to hear anothger work of the calibre of "Hergest Ridge", my personal favourite.

Sorry about the hideous spelling mistakes; I've got a head and chest cold. I meant Delius for Delis; ingeniously for ingeniusly; and another for anothger. Snif...

I do really enjoy Mike Oldfield's music, he is a great composer. In particular tubular bells 3, which the best for me.. but I do enjoy the strange sounds of Amarok. Songs of a distant earth is a pure pleasure to listen when you want to relax, as good as it can be, sometimes you can have also a good funny sound coming from Portsmouth or Back to France, it is a bit different. The Main reason why I do like him , he is a one-band-man a bit like Jean Michel Jarre in France.

I`m the biggest mike oldfield fan ever(really).I started listening to mike when I was about 10 years old.My first MO album was exposed which my bigbrother gave me and since then i`ve been addicted to his music and today i`ve got all of his cd`s and dvd`s that have been published in Denmark.(about 30)I love the way he handles his guitar and makes it cry like no one else can. He`s a kick a** guitar player no doubt about that..I also like that his music is so detailed, every time i listen to tubular bells i hear new things i did`nt notice before. It`s a little hard for me to say which album is my favorite cause it changes from time to time at the moment I think it is QE2,AMAROK and LIGHT+SHADE...But I do know for sure that ISLANDS,EARTH MOVING,HEAVENS OPEN and THE VOYAGER are the lowest rated on my list...Another thing I like about MO is his abillity of renewing him self and always be the first with the newest technology e.g his latest album L+S were made on computer only (fruity loops) and no instruments at all except a couple of guitars and a synthseizer...
