What kind of feeding schedule should we have for our 8 month old baby?

hello, As this is our first baby, I would like some advice from others regarding feeding our 8 month old son. He is on formula now. Normally, I feed him a bottle (7oz) when he first wakes up in the morning any where from around 7am to 9am. Then, at lunch I give him water in a sippy cup/straw and about 4 tablespoons of cereal (rice or oatmeal) mixed with some juice and then about 2-4 tablespoons (depends how hungry he is) of either a fruit or veg. baby food mix. He also gets a bottle after lunch with about 4-6oz of formula. In the afternoon he gets another small bottle (4-5oz) and usually takes a nap after that. Then, for dinner we give him a fruit or veg. baby food depending on what he had for lunch. If he had fruit for lunch we give him a veggie for dinner. We give him a few ounces of juice/water mixed together. And usually a few finger food type things like Gerber puffs or cherios or something. Then before bed we give him a big bottle with about 8oz of formula. How does this sound? Is that what an 8 month old should be doing? should we be giving him more or less solid foods? more or less formula? He has had meat/chicken a few times. Should we be giving him some every day? What about milk products? When can we start cheese or yogurt? thanks for the advice. Rachel

There are yoghurts aimed at babies from 4months so try it out with him. All babies are different and if he seems to be satisfied then he is getting enough food. I actually forget what mine ate at that age, but yours sounds like he is getting a lot into him. If you are worried contact your health nurse for info on the right weight he should be and advice on portions.

It sounds like a perfect schedule. My daughter is pretty much on the same schedule. Formula is her main sorce but by 10-12 months babies might quit formula all together like i did when i was 10 months. Its good to get them prepared. Also my daughter eats finger foods like small overcooked cut pieces of veggies and mashable fruit, egg yolks and chicken (from can) not much mostly for practice.

the pediatrician of my baby advice us to stop giving food to our baby until he is not 1year old.the baby needs more milk than foods that we are eating..baby gets there minerals and vitamins that they need on the milk. Most of the baby became sick because of what they eat.for now you can try to give him eggs...if you give him eggs today observed the baby if he is allergic to the foods....for you to be able to know if your baby has some allegry give him the same food for the whole day.You can also give your baby potatoes, squaz, baby foods...dont over feed your baby during the night...for 8months i advice to dont give him chicken or meat first....why?the digestion of the baby is different from ours...

By 8 months, I started using a bottle less often and a cup more often. My kids were eating more finger foods, the Gerber packages they sell, are really good, messy but good. It has meat (finely cut) and vegetables. It is advised not to give your babies milk before one year, but I started slowly at about 9 10 months to get ready for the change. In my opinion, he needs more solid foods and less formula. But again, thats what I did with my kids. Have you talked to your sons doctor to see what he suggests?

I'm not a Dr or anything but this is how we do things with our daughter :- She has breakfast around 9:30am - which is usually toast - just with butter or something like that. She has lunch around 12:30 - lately we've been giving her some pieces of orange which she loves, plus some noodles or other soft fruit that she can pick up! Dinner is around 5:30pm & it depends on what we have as to what she has - she tried pasta the other day, some days she'll have some noodles, she likes meat (i just put little pieces in her mouth) - with an 8 month old you can try all sorts! As for bottles - well, on the tin of formula we buy, it says at this age (my daughter is only 9 months) they should have 4 bottles at 240ml (about 8oz) as well as 3 meals. You can find baby yohgurts but if you want to try milk products do it slowly - make a bottle of formula - about 7oz & then add just 1oz of cows milk! My daughter loves cheese - whether it just be a small piece in her mouth or cream cheese on toast! She also eats scrambled eggs - so try a few things & see how you go :)
