Suicide attempts, can they also sometimes be attention stunts?

I have a few friends who tried to commit suicide by OD'ing on sleeping pills and other drugs and just the way it happened, it was so obvious, they were just tryng to get attention. Have you been in a similar situation with firends or family?

i know i've tried to do this before.
hehehehe
never seriously contemplated it, though.
just thought: "maybe if i kill myself, they'll finally notice i was alive."
---- but i've never thought like this since i was 13.
