Cash or gift card?

what's a better gift to give to a friend (who is a girl) cash or gift card? basically I'm trying to show that I'm not a free loader, because occasionally she drives me home from work.

I would have to say a gift card, to somewhere or something she might like. Sound good?

I would definitely like to have cash instead of a gift card. Gift only is only for one place. Cash you can use everywhere.
