I don't believe so. Kofi Annan was himself endorsed by the UN a decade ago as UN Sec. Gen. but he proved to be detached from the US after criticizing its "illegal" unilateral action. The reason why the UN cannot stop the US does not solely rest on the shoulders of Kofi ANNan. I would still point at th Security Council lapses particularly the veto power granted on its permanent members. Kofi Anna was able to come up with proposals of how to reform the UN structure. Since he had left the UN after his term had ended, I'm looking forward to the implementation of these reforms by the new UN Sec. Gen. But whatever it is that Annan proposed, it would still not succeed if each of the Member States fail to do its role. More than anything else, the phrase "the UN has failed" must actually mean "the members of the UN has failed."

I don't think that Kofi Annan is Bush's pet. But I think that Kofi Annan lacks the back bone to run the U.N. How many times has there been something that the U.N. peace keepers should have been sent to a country to help out, and nothing was done until after the U.S. finally went in to help out. There are so many things that the U.N. could do to help out the people in other countries but Kofi refuses to do anything about it. What about the problems in some of the countries in Africa, where war lords are klling innocent people, just because of a power struggle with the government. Is it because that the country might not belong to the U.N.? I don't know, but the U.N. needs to do more to help out other countries that are in dire need of help. What needs to be done first, is to replace Kofi with a leader that is willing to help out the people of countries that are being hurt for no reason. But also remember, that the it's not the Palestians that are attacking Israel, but the terrorists that they allow to live in their country. Israel was attacked first, and chose to respond with an assault equally as violent, if not more. An dthe reasson the the U.S. supports the Israeli government, is that the Israeli's are an ally, and that it seems that the Israeli's are constantly under attack from its neighbors. And at least the U.S. has tried many times to work with the various countries involved to bring some peace to the region. What has the U.N. done to help.

Of course not. Kofi Annan is a vocal critic of the Bush administration. Its common knowledge that he is very critical of most of the stuff Bush does. The real point is that Kofi Annan is no longer the Secretary General of the United Nations. The new guy from S. Korea was just sworn in. Kofi Annan's corrupt, ineffective UN is on its way out, I'm hoping for reform. The UN can't do anything without the US except agree that poverty and aids are bad.

I should say he must, or have to. US is the super power in the world. UN should get the support from US. What the Un have? I will say nothing. So annan have to compromise in something. It's just politics. Don't worry!
