Do you talk to yourself?

Canada

When you are alone or in the room with someone do you talk to yourself? I have been noticing (with a little help from my boyfriend) that I talk to myself especially in the washroom and kitchen.

I do talk to myself as I find that by hearing my qustions,I can answer them easier. This to me is a good way to separate that thought from the thousands/millions that go thru the mind. However,I have never caught myself losing an arguement with me yet......so....there is still hope for me..

I always talk to myself. This seems to keep me on track of what I am doing. Unfortunately, we try to do everything at such a fast pace that we forget what we are doing. Talking to ourselves helps.

Of course I talk to myself. Sometmes that is the only way I can get an intelligent conversion. LOL ANyways, I find that talking to myself helps me clear my mind and clarify my thoughts. I don't think I have any places that I am more likely to talk to myself but that might better be answered by my family.

Well I mostly talk to the cats, but I also talk to myself trying to remeber what I went to get. It tends to help me reply things over in my mond but my mond tends to go one step further and take it to my mouth and it can cause an issue especially when my husband wonders if I am loosing it.

Talking to oneself is often seen as a sign of mental illness, of course that when it's done in public, walking in the street, etc. I'm not sure if someone is talking to himself a lot in private he/she will begin to unconsciously do it in public? you said you noticed with little help of your boyfriend, so maybe you were not totally aware of it? .. I personally see no point in talking to myself, you do this inside of your mind, you hear you own thoughts and reply back to it, I have "silent conversations" with myself all of the time and that's normal, can't see why you need to hear your own voice and talk back to yourself to have a conversation.. I hope that all of you people admitting talking to yourselves here are not losing it lol

Most people talk to themselves at one time or another, so it may not be a problem in and of itself....reasons why people might talk to themselves--1. Loneliness. Obviously many people who live alone talk to themselves. 2. Withdrawal. Some persons have had a sufficient amount of hurt in their lives that they withdraw from others into their own world. 3. Self-stimulation. Certain types of learning disabilities involve efforts to adjust by self-stimulation. For instance, some readers will move their lips while reading. These persons are often strong auditory learners trying to stimulate their strongest learning center. Thus, talking to yourself may be a reflection that you are a very strong auditory learner who does much better with processing anything when it is spoken. It does not mean you have a mental illness, it just means you are human!!

I wasn't trying to insult anybody in anyway, was just joking :) sorry if anyone was offended. I just mean that some people may lose track of being alone or not and talk to themselves in public, especially if they live alone and it starts to be so natural to them that they don't notice that they do it at any time and any place.. we see this sometimes and it's not from homeless or crazy people, respectable people may be talking to themselves in the street and it looks weird .. As you said everyone may do it sometimes but one should be aware of what he is doing and when.
