Democracy by force?

Of late America has been interfering in the internal affairs of many countries. Though their work in Afghanistan is praiseworthy, because any form of government other than Taliban is good, their war in Iraq has been a complet failure. They underestimated the obstacles the would have had to face whil trying to bring a revolutionary change. They managed to bring down the Saddam Hussein regime very quickly but has not yet been able to install a successful government in its place. The ignorance or miscalculation about on-the-ground situation has caused problems. This brings to my question,"Can Democracy be thrust upon people by force by external powers?" I feel this should come from within the society itself. Else it becomes no different from dictatorship. A puppet government is as good as dicatatorship by an external power. What do u feel abt this

well, there's no such democracy by force...it's fake.it's not a democracy but it's a regime..i'm not a saddam fan but at least when iraq in saddam power the tarif for water and electrical power were very cheap..but look wut hapen to iraq now on..i'm not only point to iraq but also Afghanistan..i think that puppet governments is such a loser cuz they r playing their own countries right, power, pride and also the local people. they r the only one who cld rest till tired cuz they have nothing to do unless that lovely uncle sam calls them asking them wut shld they do the local people have to starving n work so hard to earn n find a gud living... as a conclusion there's no "DEMOCRACY BY FORCE"

The democracy wasn't "forced" it was "allowed". With Saddam in power the minority people controlled and dominated the majority of the population. It was a dictatorship where no one could decide their own government. Now democracy has been given a chance by the removal of that regime, and the Iraqi people have accepted democracy. The majority of Iraqis still wanted the US to create the democracy. Something like 70% of the Iraqi people voted in their elections, that is more than in most American elections. The news shows you bombings, not the freedom. The people doing the bombing aren't representative of how the average Iraqi feels about having a democracy.

Contrary to popular belief, we Americans have no sayso over what our government does. It doesn't matter how we feel about it. Our government does not care.

Firstly, the USA is not and has never been a democratic nation. One only classify the USA government as a model democracy if one neither question nor say nothing that matters! The US government, like its parent government Great Britain, is a piracy government that can only thrive by plundering. The US is in Iraq mainly to dictate and plunder. Did you know that the USA is currently a police state? Go figure!

You have the right to say what you want, you have the right to do what you want, you have the right to vote in any government you want!!! We in the UK have the same rights!!! So who is not democratic???? And just what is the US plundering in Iraq???? And as for a Police State, you need to go to see a REALO POLICE STATE my friend, then you will realise just what you have in the US !!

The USA isn't a police state. That is OBVIOUSLY not true. To say that is ignorant of the situation and misleading. When you are melodramatic like that, other people are swayed to believe it without knowing it isn't actually true. BTW, the USA is a Democratic Republic. That means its a democratically elected republic of leaders. It isn't a direct democracy but that doesn't mean it isn't a democracy. It is the longest lasting Constitution ever and the most free government in the world.

i dont think that democracy is the ultimate solution for man kinds all problems every society has its different system of governtment ehich suits em best besides democracy has its own flaws.... About US dhe doesnt want democracy she wants supremecy whether its through democracy or by military coupes or even by ruthless opression n invasion pinochet's rule in chili n the present dictatorship in Pakistan like all the previous ones was fully supported by the US infact if it wasnt for US interference in the internal affairs n regimes of different countries around the world the world would probably have been a beter n a free place to live than it is now

Some body had to do something to alleviate the suffering of the iraqy people, and bush taking the initiative against all odds and opposition, was commendable.People who suffer for want of basic necessities dont bother for democracy,or dictatorship, they want food, shelter, clothing ,which is promised for 55 years but not achieved till today,as for freedom in democracy ,it is in the statute books only, see the caning of medical srudents, raping of women by the higher castes, etc, etc,Every time we want to exercise our rights we have to go to the courts for intervention, corruption is rampant, even to do a job for which a salary is paid, bribes are asked for, We are bound by laws ,rules, society, religion, red tapism, they all dictate to us what we can do and cant, where is the freedom to decide for your self, want a passport renewal, the police just sits on the verification, 100 days , maybe foreever, till we move the courts to obtain something which is our right,no time limit is adhered to even though there is one, its only an illusion. This is democracy for u and me, In a situation when there is blantant abuse of power, and violation of human rights,a strong country should intervene by force if necessary and that is what bush has done, in iraq .The outcome of Bushs action will take time and the results will be there for all to see.wait and watch.

i think all usa wants is war. they get huge profit if they can have a war and that is what they are trying to do. if u follow the history of last 10 15 years they have not gone without war for more than a decade so this is bound to happen and iot will keep happening until they are overpowered by someone

For the American military action in Afghanistan, I have to say I am already sick of the role USA play as a wrold police who judge all the matters by herself. The so-called "Democracy of Afghanistan" is the best example. I always insist that afghanistan should be governed by the Afghanistanis themself. Maybe, some civilized countries feel they have the responsibility to enlighted other under-civilized countries. But, the external power never can force Afghanistani to accept democracy against their will.

Yes you are right democracy should not be implemented by force. Every country has it's own govrning system which the have adopted according to their suitability and democracy also has its own demerits like powers will be definetly in the hands of majority community and the Minorities will not get fair treatment. Besides, Iraq War was not for democracy but it was to serve the US interest.

It is not just lately that this great nation of ours has been doing this. Ever since the establishment of the CIA there has been a lot of political turmoil stirred up in third world countries that had opposing view points then US policies. Look at Central and South America and Africa. What do you think Vietnam and Korean wars were all about.

Democracy by force? I believe that democracy is the best form of government to be used in the 21st century and towards the future. I also believe that the United States played a vital role in the spread of this kind of government principles. However, as to how democracy is to be introduced in the non-democratic countries needs careful study. There are so many things to be considered: For example: 1. The culture and traditions of the people 2. The history and experience of the people 3. The economic of the country
