In my teaching class, I find my students always indulge in reading things in network, but know less about those classic works for they have no time and interest to finish such a long books which I think it's a big loss to train their spirit. What do the students think about this question in your country? Do you think it's worthwhile to read classic works?

I agree with you. I think it is because of social atmosphere, people tend to those skin-deep things.so students do like it.My daughter often reads jokes and comics, she thinks those are simple, she doesn't like classic works.

Kids in the U.S. very seldom are interested in reading classic literature. They'd rather read something more contemporary. I've been shocked in recent years to see English classes change their reading curriculum to more modern material and eliminate the classics we had to read when I was in school many years ago. If the schools don't even advocate the reading of these masterpieces, there's no way a student is going to pick one up. My son reads some (he's 24 now), because I always did. He's been struggling through "Ulysses" for the last few months. But I find him an exception to the norm.

In my country, people especially younger generation tend to pursue modern stuff like TV game, PC, internet and etc and show least interest in reading, let alone reading classic works. I think for them reading classic stuff is out-of-date and boring for them. For myself, i do think that it is an wisdom from the past, and it really fantastic and be grateful that we are able to read those works from the past and got benefit from it.
