I've been to quite a few gaming/sci-fi conventions, mostly Egyptian Campaign in Carbondale, Illinois. Last year, my roommates and I drove down to Atlanta for Dragon*Con, and that was a ton of fun! We went mostly to see the bands, but getting to watch all of the people wandering about in costumes was a lot of fun too. :)

I have been to many SF cons. I even got to the Worldcon in San Antonio for a day. I was a member of the concom (costumn committee) for the NASFIC held in Austin in 1985. I have been to both media (tv shows/fan run) cons and literary cons. Armadillocon in Austin TX is a literary con held annually (except for 1985 & 1998). I missed this year because it conflited with an important family obligation (my mom's 80th birthday party.) I skipped a few years as well, when I had some issues with some members of the concom - but would frequently show up for the friday night parties after they closed the membership table & crash them to see some out of town friends. I got to MediaWest, a major fan run, media fanzine con in Lansing MI in 1999. That was great fun, but I could've had a better time - probably because I was depressed over lossing a friend 6 months before. I have gone to some of the media cons where tv stars show up. More often the Doctor Who cons since the stars are more accessable at them then the Trek cons that are actually run by a professional group & keep the stars away from the fans except for their talks & short autograph sessions.
