Parenting Perspectives

Being a parent to my son is a wonderful feeling. The bonding and the chance to set straight at least with one soul, the things that have gone wrong with so many others. Of course I feel guilty every single time I mess up even a little. Being a parent really changes your perspective too.
I thought being a parent would change how I felt toward other parents who perhaps had not taken as much care with rearing their children as they should have, but instead of feeling sympathy for their lack of time and energy a greater feeling is repulsion that they were not willing to sacrifice themselves for the ones they claim to love so much.
I thought that having a child would be at least somewhat similar to having a pet (after all don't a lot of us call our pets our children), but it is not. The difference is worlds apart. Having a pet gives you a warm gushy feeling inside. Having a child feels you with fear, responsibility, and the greatest joy you've ever known, all at once.
I thought that being a parent would make you less sexy. In reality I just have less time to be sexy and am finding myself attracted more to other parents because of the great love of which they are capable. (Well, other GOOD parents anyway.)
Not only is it a psychological shift, but it is pheromenal and hormonal as well. My body has literally changed causing me to be a more protective, stronger person.
Departing thought: Sniff a baby's head, change the world.

If there were a way to express to a non-"breeder" the kind of elation being a parent can bring, I think there would be a lot more parents out there.
I kind of do and kind of don't wish I could understand the other kind of parent.
