How much should the tooth fairy leave?

My 6 year old daughter has her first loose tooth and is very excited. When I was a kid the tooth fairy just left spare change. Due to inflation, I am wondering how much the tooth fairy is supposed to leave her when she loses her tooth. How much do you leave for your kids?

I used to leave my daughter a pound, as most of the mothers did, however one of the parents decided to buy her spoilt daughter a small doll for every tooth she lost. I think that was so irresponsible as all the other kids wanted to know why they only got money.

We usually leave about $2 the reason for that is because the things they tend to want to buy cost just under that and I like to see there faces on the morning when the "tooth fairy" has come and left them dollar bills instead of change. For the first tooth we left a $5 and then it waso nly $2 after that.

depends who she leaves the money to! if its for me then a 1000 dollars maybe but if i have to be the tooth fairy for my daughter then i wont keep more than 2 dollars...she is still too young to spend around!

We give a dollar here at our house. However, that has been going on for around 8 years. I believe I heard that the average is about $2. now. I think one dollar is still fine in our household. We are probably on the lower side of the middle income household. Our kids probably don't get as much as some of their friends. They know we aren't poor but have to watch our money closely or we will be poor soon. Not that the amount we give out for teeth is going to affect us much one way or the other.
