we all know that there are always a lot of rumours floating around, some local, some regionally circulated, some national and international, and now thru the net also. and every now and then we seem to find ourselves believing them. also a lot of facts we ignore as fiction or rumours as the case may be. infact the line between fact and fiction has always been a blurred one. i will give 1 such instance. 1 fine afternoon i get these smses and calls from a few friends warning me to not pick my cellphone if i get a call from any 9 digit or 11 digit numbers. reason: if i do so, the phone will blow up and will my head with it. and how would that happen, a virus from the caller's end would infect my hardware, heat it up enough to blow it, sounds pretty much sci-fi, but i found it believeable as, believe it or not, i had this terrorist of a thought with my limited ideas about how software and hardware works, this heating up part to take lives at will, like 'your death is just a call away', just a few days before this happened. i frantically called all those who mattered to me and a few more giving them this crap, i even had 1 such number which i passed to others. however all this came to nothing, next day the newspaper ran this story giving 3-4 such 9 or 11 digit numbers and the assurance of the telecom dept. that such a situation can only be gud fiction, not fact! imagine a whole state(Orissa,India) was fooled by a prank which might have started in a hostel room.
