Our German Shepherd is terrified of storms. He is 11yrs old, male, and huge. He literally tries to get on my knee during a storm. Needless to say, he covers me completely. Our other 2 dogs are small and they are not too bad during bad weather. How are your dogs during a storm?

I've had two dogs that were terrified of storms. They both hid under beds, but one of them actually shook with fear, and was afraid to come out for a long time after

My dog isn't too scared by storms (she's a Jack Russell so even if she did want to get on my lap it wouldn't be too bad!). But my cat is absolutely terrified! lol He runs around the house trying to find things to hide under and the look in his eyes is just pure panic! =) I have learnt the hard way to just leave him be and DON'T try and pick him up and cuddle him unless you want permanent claw marks in your shoulder!

i think you should make them face their fears and next time theres a huge storm, send em out and face that fear!!

You can't send animals out to face their fear - the have no idea what you are doing. You just have to leave them be...some are scared and some aren't. It won't do anything (except maybe give them a heart attack!) if you make them go outside and stand out there when there is thunder and lightening! That's just cruel!

To sirwillyam,
When an adult goes out to face his fears it is their choice. To send a dog out to face its fears is beyond me. I would have to force the dog out, because it would not be his choice. I hope you have not got an animal. You would not know how to care for it!
