Closed Captioning

Does anyone else use their closed captioning option on their TVs? Just wondering because I have been using it for the past 8 or more years! Sometimes I don't hear every word so with CC, I can read it! :) I love it... Just curious if anyone else uses? If so, how long?

No, but I am going to from now on. My husband is hooked on YouTube.com and his pc is bedside, so when I go to watch the few shows I watch, I have to practically throw a fit to get him to turn the volume down so I can hear the TV. Great idea! Thank you!

I do sometimes. There was a period of time where my fiance would always have to have CC on for every movie because there were parts we were missing. But after a few months of that it really started to irk me! Even when I tried not to read the words, my eyes were drawn to it. I felt like I couldn't concentrate on the movie anymore. Now we go without the CC unless we can't understand something, in which case we rewind it and put on CC for that part only. Or when I'm on the phone, I'll mute the tv and put CC on so I can read it a little while the person is talking ;) For some reason I can read the tv and listen the person but I can't listen to the person and listen to the tv!

When I have a hard time understanding what is being said, I will use it. I used to use it all the time by my partner got annoyed with me because he said that he ends up reading along and not watching the actual show. To me, it didn't bother me..ha ha I read a lot anyways. But now, I have broken the habit of using it all the time. However, when my partner and I watch a movie together and it is a in-depth movie, I will watch it again later with the CC. To me, I get more from reading the caption than just listening and watching. Example, Lord of the Rings movies. I must prefer to watch those with closed caption. And I plan on re-watching V for Vendetta with close caption also. :) To me, there was so much that I missed by not being able to read the words.

My husband bought me a tv for my birthday about 5 years ago that had captions. I love it because I don't have to listen to it so loudly. Plus it helps sometimes when the speaking is quiet or indistinct. I love it! I never turn it off. My tv recently developed a buzz and the closed caption has saved me. I plan to get a new tv in the next few months when I get some cash saved.

I forgot to add that the new tv will have to have closed captioning or I won't buy it. Is it pretty much standard now anyway?

I don't know about TV, but whenever I watch DVDs, I put the captions on (even when the movie is in a language I understand). I'm the only person I know that likes captions though! All my friends find them annoying!

My grand,a lives with my family so we use closed captioning all the time. She is losing her hearing so the easiest way for her to know what's going on without blowing the speakers is for us to use closed captioning. Only things is my grandma has bad eyesigth as well so lately the closed captioning hasn't been helping a whole lot.

We will sometimes use this feature. My husband is Dutch and he has problems at times understanding what is said. According to him, Americans tend to swallow their words and it makes it difficult to understand us.

I love closed captioning. We started using it when my neice was a baby. We lived in a small mobile at the time. It allowed us to watch something without it being too loud so she could go to sleep. We got used to having it on. Now when we don't have it I really miss it. I can see words that I might miss otherwise, you know when the music is so loud so you turn it down but then the words are hard to hear. Also did you know that kids who have closed captioning on learn to read sooner then those who don't? We read that in a study a few years ago and found it interesting.

I never use the closed captioning. It's a great option if you have hearing problems or have a lot of background noise, I guess, but when it's on I find that I'm so focused on reading it that I don't actually "see" the show. I suppose it's something that you get used to doing- like walking and chewing gum at the same time, right?

We don't. My parents do though. My 20 year old sister has a hard time hearing. She was born as an idntical twin & things did not quite develope as well as it should have. They have been using the CC for years for her. I am glad that it helps her be able to enjoy TV & Movies.

You are the first person that I've heard use it. Maybe I will try it out. I don't always hear everything either, because I keep it turned down low when the baby is sleeping.

lol I am 21 years old with no hearing problems but sometimes I still use the closed captioning because I misunderstand words sometimes. My fiance gets mad at me though. LOL

Most of my Aunts and Uncle's were born with hearing problems so using closed captioning is not uncommon in my family. I myself have never had to use it but I can see how it can come in handy for people.

I don't use it, but I wish my son would. He has a hearing impediment and he turns the volume on th tv up so loud that the house vibrates.

I have heard about it, but not used it. But my friend's family uses it for the past 5 or 6 years...
