Christmas, santa claus do you believe it ?

Christmas on Desember 25th,is that anyone knows when and why chrismast begin?why on 25th,not on 1st or etc. And what about "Santa" is it real? or just child's imagination? My little sister ask me about that, and she make me little confuse :-)
