Do you think x computer games violent in nature should be banned

These days we often find computer games/vidieo games that are violent in nature .This may involve killing people using simulated guns etc.. Although these games may involve using only keyboard /mouse ,ultimately would lead to a killer mentality in the child .We have seen several incidents where guys of 12 - 13 years involved in actual killing of people ..This is a harsh reality . Such games can help in making future gangsters, criminals and increase crime rates ,hence I think computer /vidieo games of violent nature should be banned. What do other people have to say ?

I disagree with banning computer game sin any way. All the violent computer games are actually made for adults, and the parents should not be letting their children play them. Why should I, almost 30, not be allowed to play a violent video game because somebody refuses to take the responsability for raising their child?

Are you agreeing with the ban or not? What about adults? Shouldn't it be the role of a parent to prevent a game going into the household a child isn't able to play?

No nothing should be banned,,and im gettin soo tired of censorship..this is why that have rating on the games,E is for everyone..anything that doesnt have that your know what your risking,I myslef love horror, graphics, and violence..not that im at all violent..i just like to escpae..into another world..and let go..but that doesnt mean im heading out tomorrow and gonna shoot anyone down..Kids have growing minds and I would never let my son play these violent games till i felt he was ready..again thats why all games have rating now..

I agree, violent video games have nothing to do about being violent, it’s not even about wanting violence, violence is part of the story-line (as in most/all films).

I will Seiously affect the childrens who are above 8 or 10 years. But, if it is used by the chidrens below 8 years it will sure affect them mentally. before starting the game there should be a warning for what age it is suitable similar to adult sites. these you can also see many adult games in websites. It will sure affect the childrens studies, sports etc... when they get into these types of games.

I was about two-three when I started playing games and yes games were violent before 3-d came, if I recall GTa itself was top-down 2-d in the beginning, and you'll be surprised to know I've never so much as got into a fight, nor did it effect my studies or the effort I put into sports, nor does it still.

Umh.... actually parrent also involved in this situation. My parents never let me to play violent game. If I did, they always accompanied me and said "That is not good, you shouldn't be like that" and explain the bad effect if I do 'real' thing that same like in the game It's not game fault only but also human fault. Let's try to protect our children or ourself not to play/watch/do something which able to effect our personality into bad

Yes I do believe that these sorta games should be banned. Unlike television and movies where you are just watching these types of event, in a game you are actually playing the role of the killer and you are choosing the violent things to do, like on grand theft auto. Movies are a bad infulence on children but these kind of games or even worse.

And for an adult who is mentally stable and a well-rounded human being they should be discriminated against because a few parents can't control their children? You could argue books are the same if not worse, your imagination brings to life the words, so there should no longer be any violent/thriller/horror books?

i don`t think so these games are made just for fun and according to you people at an age of 12-13 are involved in actual killing. its their parents fault for not guiding thier children in the right path. ban is not the right decission because it doen`t end at one point.

I don't think banning those computer games violent in nature is the best way to solve the problem. The key word is still the education! For those 12-13 years old kids, school teachers and parents should tell them that the x computer games are not suitable for them cause their will are too weak to fight agsinst some x temptation and they can't define what is the difference between real and show. Therefore, improving our education for kids and enforce effective classification system on computer games are the two key measures.

I dont think this would be any solution. I think as long as the kids playing the game know that it is ONLY a game!! I mean we have games like Prince and Wolf for ages now, but nobody got "inspired" to repeat these actions!! The thing is that todays games have taken the violence to the streets and the graphics are so stunning that small kids (under 12) might get the feeling that it is real. But such small kids not be playing such violent games in the first place!!

I have to fully disagree with the discussion starter. Just because children play violent video games does mean they are more likely to commit acts of violence. Take a non violent video game for instance, Need for Speed Most Wanted (a car racing game). Just because the game portrays street racing and evading/ramming cops, does NOT mean that children are going to go out and get themselves into a high speed pursuit. So what makes you think that violence in video games will persuade children to go out and commit acts of violence? According to this theory, maybe you should consider banning all video games that portray illegal actions, if you're planning on banning violent video games. But then again, I am fortunate enough to live in America, where video game content is protected under the right of free speech. As far as the killings go, I see those kids as having poor mental health in the first place. Just because 0.001% of people playing video games take them too seriously and go out and kill people, does definitely NOT mean that the rest of us (mentally healthy people), cannot enjoy video games. Furthermore, what good is banning violence in video games if the TV is still rampant with it? Children in America will be exposed to violence, at some age, by some means.

If we start banning things then we are no better than nazi germany. I personally think banning things goes against why this country was founded on. As far as the statement that games make kids kill. That's a crock of bull. If a kid kills because of a game he's defective. Blaming the game is easy. Put the blame where it belongs on the parents. Games have ratings. Just like movies. If a parent allows their child to child to buy a M rated game then it's their responsibility to make sure that the child is mature enough to understand that a game is fantasy life is reality. If we start banning where does it stop? When books that group A doesn't are burned? Or do we ban violent movies? Violent movies? Classic Bugs Bunny cartoons? My point is we live in a country where we have choices. If choose to not buy violent games that's okay. But is not okay for you to make that decision for me.

They should be banned for those who have no discipline in using them. Do you celebrate Christmas? If yes, I will take this opportunity to greet you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (though is not yet Dec. 25, I may not have a chance to greet you anymore so I will do it now). http://dchallenger.blogdrive.com

I agree with you.Video games which are violent in nature should not be allowed as they affect the mental health of a child who plays it.Winning at any cost would be recorded at childs mind playing it and it tries to follow the same even in the real life without knowing the difference between the real and fantasy. So the games of violent nature especially which are produced for the sake of kids and children should be banned.

PC games has extremely going through lots of drastic changes from time to time. I personally, once, got addicted to this. I must say that playing a violent genre of pc games is inevitable especially those who are keen in pc gaming. What I'm trying to say is the control of this scenario especially among children is not easy. On the other hand, banning these types of game might create another issue like limited genre in gaming world. Holistic approach should be taken into consideration when you want to tackle an issue like this. Not only the authority but also the society are accountable.
