Should I stay friends with him?

I have this friend. We became friends about a year ago. Eventually we stared dating. After awhile of dating, we had to break up. we broke up because he was in church, and he couldnt be with someone of a different lifestyle. We were still friends after that though. We are really close now, best friends. I trusted him greatly. For a while now we have been talking about getting more serious, because he isnt a part of his church any more and he wanted to live his own life. Just recently, he told me he couldnt be with me because he possibly wants to be with another girl. He asked me if we could still be friends. I want to, but i am wondering if maybe i shouldnt. I still have feelings for him, and i can't seem to get them to go away. I dont know if i should stay with him, because we are so close, or cut him out of my life because we have become too close and attached. I am very confused. Can anyone help me out?

yeah``i can't fully understand about what you said.firstwhy you two broke up because he was in church .iam a chinese,so i don't think the two things have any relevance!can you explain that ,please? and second i don't know why he wants to be with another girl ,you are so close. i think you should ask him why ?why he wants another girl to be his girlfriend not you ? in my opinion,it is really hard to regard the person you love as just a friend . finally, if i were you,i would quit,and cut him out of my life.but wait ,i am not you.so it depends on yourself anyway!
