I highly recommend people to read Katie MacAlister's vampire series (also her dragon series if you have the time). She doesn't write the whole, 'Oh woe is me, I'm a vampire and my life sucks.' Hers is more like, 'Oh look! There's a hot guy over there who could be a vamp. I think I'll go fall in love with him!' Yay!

Another good series to read is Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles - she has about 12 of them now...fantastic reading! And some very interesting theories in some of them regarding the whole heaven and hell theme! lol I've read the whole series a couple of times and am now going through and actually collecting them! Hopefully you'll enjoy them - she is a very talented author...

Oh, duh! Can't believe I didn't mention her. Thanks! I've read 'Interview with a Vampire', began 'The Vampire Lestat' but I never finished. I saw 'Queen of the Damned' but I could just tell that story was butchered.

Never trust a movie over a book! I read Jurassic Park sooooo many times (loved that book!) before I watched the movie and then was extremely disappointed because there was so much missing! Queen of the Damned is pretty good - I found it was a lot easier to read them in sequence...but Memnoch the Devil was absolutely intriguing - that's the one with the theory on heaven and hell...seen from Lestat's point of view...

I read Jurassic Park too! I loved that book, and you're right, the movie did it no justice. I've been told repeatedly to read Memnoch the Devil, but I've got to catch up on the other books first.

My sister just got me hooked on the Katie Macalister books. I've only read 'Fire Me Up' but have a few others of hers. I want to get all of the books she has published, but we'll see how that goes. As for vampires books and romance -ponders- Ann Rice is okay, though I could only stand the first three books. For some reason, I just couldn't get into the ones after Queen of the Damned. Ah well. Twilight is another vampire book, although... well, it's okay though it could be better. But yeah, definitely loving what I see of Katie Macalister so far.
