What is your definition of democracy?

Is it the government of the people for the people and by the people or is it something else? does western democracy fulfills the ethical criteria of government of the people, for the people, and by the people? Or do you think otherwise and have your own definition of democracy?

This is where everyone is given the opportunity to participate in making all policy decisions. In countries and large organizations, direct democracy is rarely utilized

Which countries do you believe are torch-bearers of democracy? please don't tell me that it is the US...:)

Yes I agree with the basic definition. But the way of selecting I question. For example there are coutries where educated people are less in number compared to the non educated ones so this democracy will mean that those who do not have much sense of worl will decide who will rule. This does not make sense
