... it's been about a month since the gall bladder operation. and i feel weird now. i visited my doctor just last week - that was my last visit. however this week - i've been pooping and peeing with what seems to be mixed with oily stuff. i don't mean to gross anyone out but is this normal?? i know i can just go google this but i'd rather get opinions from people who've experienced it. i'm gonna be seeing my doctor later this week as well, but i just wann know, is this oily stuff a symptom of having my gall bladder taken out or am i just being paranoid?? thanks. :o)

I had my gall bladder out in 1999. I too had stones which was blocking the bile duct causing severe pain. I was in the middle of the grocery store and I had an attack. I immediately checked out and was extremely pale. I got the groceries home and couldn't sit, lay or anything. I called my doctor and had my sister take me to the nearest emergency room. I was admitted for gall bladder and an enlarge pancreasis. I was in the hospital for a week to get the swelling in the pancris to go down. Once the gall bladder was removed. I just had to walk the floor without resting before I could be released. When I eat high fat foods & soft drinks I get the bowel movement that you are describing. It is nasty! Best suggestion, eat more fiber and cut out the junk food. It really does help!

That's really good advice. I had my gall bladder removed for the same reasons in October of 2005 because of stones also. They tried to remove it through my belly button but my pancreas and gllbladder were too swollen so they had to make a large incision down my right side to take it out. To this day if I eat fatty or greasy foods I will have horrible bowel movements. Cutting out the junk food is your best bet, and try to take note of the things that you eat that give you problems. I hadn't heard about eating plenty of fiber but I will try that.

gall bladder removal information - affects many Americans an am hoping to find a way to prevent it from happening to anyone ever again
I don't normally answer discussions that have picked the best response already however I had to share a bit of info. My hubby had his gall bladder out too and since then he has learned to eat less fatty and less spicy foods. You can still eat them but in small quantities with other foods to lessen the impact. He has found slippery elm to coat his innards a help too. you now have constantly dripping bile and that could really irritate the lining of your gut. Keep that in mind and I hope you do well.

I have got my gall bladdr taken out more than 4 years ago, becasue of pancreatic cancer. I am not comparttively oky, and feel lousy only when I eat something that is too greasy or too spicy, or if I haveover eaten, I have been avised to eat small quantities of food many times a day. the problem is that I get hungry and then tend to overeat, and hence am putting on too much weight. In the last 4 years, i have gone up from 69 kgs to almost 90 now.

Well, I had my gall bladder taken out when I was 16 years old due to stones. I had a 50/50 chances of living because it was so bad and linking acid to my entire body. I couldn't eat, drink, or basically do anything but hold my stomach and praying for the pain to go away. But it never did. I had to deal with it for a whole year before it got really bad. I was in pain for a good two weeks before going to the ER. Well, I did go to the ER before and all they said that it's nothing serious and for me to take some medication that they prescribe to me and that I'll be okay. Yeah Right. So when it got really bad and I didn't want to go back to the ER because I knew they were going to tell me the same thing. But it got to the point where I couldn't sleep, eat, or do anything. Just drinking water I would vomit. That's so crazy. So I had my parents rush me back to the ER. I waited for four hours before I got a room and another two hours before they even check and see me. This was just so ridiculous. I just wanted to die right there. I couldn't even breath and they had me waited for that long. Can you believe this? Well, when they finally had some blood test run, and did xrays, they found out that I was in really bad shape. My gal bladder was fill up with stone and was linking out acid to my entire body, which is poisoning me. I was dying. I had to go through two surgery. The first one was to have tubes go through my month to cut the gal gladder. They had these really small camera tubes as well going through and I find this so unique. I was asleep but in the middle of the surgery, I woke up and start to panic and constantly moving, so they gave me more dose to put to back to sleep. The next thing I knew, I was in a room. I was question do I drink from fountains at school or was I from Thailand or Laos. It's funny because I never even been to Thailand or Laos and I don't like drinking from fountains at school. So they didn't know where I got the stones from. So anyways, when I had the second surgery, everything went okay. Seriously, I don't even remember going into the surgery room. I just remember laying in my room and painless. I was in the hospital for two weeks. I was so happy to have it remove and don't have to worry about feeling that terrible pain again. If I was to wait another day, I would have not been here today. Scary to know this but it's true. Well, I don't recall experiencing what you went through but what I did was I watch what I eat. I only had chicken and rice. No beef or pork because my mom told me that I have scars and the scars were not close all the way yet and to prevent them from itchy and swallows, I should just have chicken. This is so true and it help. No junk food at all becuase it's not good. Well, not until I know I was okay to have whatever. Absolutely no spicy food. This was a big thing to me because I can't live without spicy food. But I manage to do it for a couple of months. Don't carry anything heavy. Just bed rest. Basically, just take care of yourself and you should be okay. I was told not to have so much oily or fried food again. Well, I just hope that you will be okay and enjoy life again. You already taken the worst and you just need to rest and not worry so much now. Know what I mean? Everything will be okay. Hang in there. Take care.

No problem. Waking up the surgery freak my mom out. She was outside the other side of the door, just peeking through the window and she was horrible when I was moving and gosh, I was so scare. Everytime I think about the time I was in there, I can still remember exactly how the pain felt and gosh, I hate it so much and I'm so happy I got it over with. It is hard to give up on what you love to eat but I'm sure you can have them once in awhile. Just don't over do it and jeopardize your life again. Us womans are always stuck with issues. hehehe.... Well, update me when you go on your next visit. It's been almost ten years for me now and I'm healthy and okay. I do eat whatever I like but not just so much. Know what I mean. lolz... I did loose alot of weight but I gain it all back. I have two kids now and with them, I gain twenty pounds. But hey, I feel great though. I don't consider myself fat.... just thick. The avatar that you see is really me. Yes, me me me... heheheh...

thanks for sharing that experience with me. i'm glad though that i didn't wait too long to treat my stomach pains... i distinctly remember the feeling of the pain. i do NOT want to experience that ever again. yeah, giving up the food that i normally eat is definitely tough cos i've been used to eating anything that i liked (which is primarily the reason why my gall bladder got busted in the first place). i'l'l take your advice though and try to stop eating the oily - YUMMY - stuff. and you know, i was told by the doctor to keep my diet as low fat as possible - still, my GOD, it's just so hard. -------------------- and oh, must have been horrible to wake up in the middle of surgery. that just gave me goosebumps! thanks for posting! :o)

I had mine out last dec. and it took me so long to recuperate. The scare alone if frighting they tried to go through my naval but my gallbladder was enlarged too much. I also lost alot of weight too much. everything I ate I just pooped it out. So I feel for you. And what you are pooping out is bile. You have to eat more and that should go away. I thought I was going to have it forever. I am fine now and have gained my weight back. You will be fine too. Take care. Hope this helps you.

I had my gall bladder out last february. It took me a while to get to the point where bile wasn't coming out when I pooped. What;s happening is your liver is having to adjust to being the only thing that produces bile now. Once it does the problem should pass. No pun intended. :)

thanks. mine wasn't enlarged i think. doctor said that it just went limp and is useless. and i didn't lose weight as well.... i wish i did, though. hehehe thanks for the info about the bile, though. it explains the oily stuff. nice to know that other people are also experiencing this and that it'll go away.

You have the gall to ask this? LOL! Seriously I had mine taken out in 1987. It got to the stage of being gangarenous because I was neglecting my health. I feel fine today but you should keep your Dr's appoinments until you are well and you will get well. I agree with Shadowwalker.

I am on the waiting list to get my gall bladder taken out, I have an inch long stone, and they are unable to remove it. When I saw them at the hospital to book me in for hospital. The cycle of the bile was explained to me. Sounds like it is the excess bile coming out. These are the joys I have to look forward too... Will be watching this post to see if there is anything else for me to look forward to :)

weight loss is something that you look forward to. but an inch long stone is terrible! another thing to look forward to i guess, is the fact that you'll be eating healthier stuff. :o) good luck!

I had mine removed about 8 years ago. No one told me at the time but your system changes a lot after it. It effects different people different ways.I put on a lot of weight which is apparently due to the fact that I dont process food in the same way I used to. I will PM you the rest as its too emnarrasing to post here with my face beside it.

I had my gall bladder out last July .. I had it done laporascopically and was amazingly able to go home the very next day ... I did have some 'pooping and peeing' issues for the first few month .. but that has gradually settled down as my body got used to not being able to digest fats so easily .. blimey those first few month I needed a clear path to the loo every morning after I had eaten my breakfast .. I swear whatever I had could race through me quicker than I could race to the loo heheheheh I was advised to have low fat diet for a year or two to help the process .. and happily I'm pretty much back to 'normal' now ... But you should contact your Doctor if you have any worries just to make sure all is well and to put your mind to rest Just for the record I had 127 stones ... nothing big .. but loads and loads of titchy tiny ones

I had my gall bladder out summer 05 after one very terrible gall bladder attack! I thought I was dying! Some people have ongoing pain that comes and goes, but mine was one HUGE bag attack! The "oily stuff" could be because of bile. Your gall bladder has been producing and regulating the release of bile. With your gall bladder gone, that bile gets released straight into the digestive system. Bile is a natural laxative, so, um, you can suddenly have to poop! And, yes, the consistency is different. Yuck! But, good honest question!

I had the same problem for several months after having mine taken out and it was just my body adjusting. Some people just take a while and your digestive system is getting use to not having a gall bladder and needs to learn how to digest differently. However just incase I would have have a doctor do a test on your stool to see if you may have an infection due to the surgery. It does happen quite often. That is what my doctor did. If you do have one it can be taken care of with an antibiotic. What I found to help also is eating more whole grains and fiber until it all processes out.

I had mineremoved just over a year ago. It was so enlarged that I think it burst during the surgery. They had to keep me an extra day in the hospital. Like a few of the others said what you are feeling and seeing is bile. It is a normal bodily fluid. I can promise you that if you eat regurlarly and have bread with your meals it will all get better and you will return to "normal" in no time.
• Philippines
21 Dec 06
yeah. :o) eating bread with my meals never occured to me. i'm from the philippines so we normally eat everything with rice. so i guess, i'll keep the rice and put the bread in there for my other meals. thanks.

Oh yeh, I remember that stuff. It will get better. Getting back to eating regularly again will help it faster. Did you lose a lot of weight before you had your surgery? I did, 38 pounds. That is a terrible thing to have to go through, but that will all get better now. You will get better, just have patience.

that's the thing. why did almost everybody here lose weight? i know i didn't. i'm losing weight right now, though. and everybody else's gall bladder was enlarged. mine just sort of shrank and went limp.
