THE Dongjiang River resumed supplying water to Shenzhen after a 10-day annual overhaul of pumping facilities, the Daily Sunshine reported Monday. Supply was resumed Dec. 14, five days ahead of the planned Sunday deadline, to ease the city’s severe water shortage. The annual overhaul used to take a month but the government decided to reduce the overhaul time to 15 days this year because of continuous drought and improved facilities. Shenzhen is heavily dependent on water piped from outside, especially the Dongjiang River, which now accounts for 75 percent of the city’s total water supply.
