Should famous actors/sportsmen be politically active?

Hi everybody!
This morning I read in the newspaper that actor George Clooney will travel to China to discuss with the government China's support of the Soedan government, in connection to the disastrous civil war going on in Darfur... He wants to try to put an end to that civil war. A few other wel known people, amongst who some atletes, will go with him.
Clooney has visited Darfur with his father (well known journalist)a while ago and is very impressed by what he saw there. Spoke with Kofi Annan, international journalists and so on.
Should Clooney, or any other actor for that matter, be involved in international politics, or should he stick to his trade that he does so well: making movies? Can a world famous person use his fame for political objectives?
Personally I think it is a good thing. Since he is so well known, people might listen to him for a few minutes...:-(( And famous people can set an example.
But does it really make a difference? Or nothing ventured nothing gained?
I like to hear you opinion about this matter...
Elisabeth
PS Madonna "shopping" for a child to adopt in Africa is a totally different matter, in my opinion...
