Christmas - whats it all about?

ok, ok! i'm a bit of a bah-humbug about christmas. of course, i loved it as a kid, as kids do, which is great. but, seriously, what is it really all about? here are a few of my points regarding christmas just to get the discussion started. 1. its unfortunate that 'we' have to have this special occassion to show what our loved ones mean to us, buy each other presents and generally be good to one-another. 'christmas spirit' should exist all year round, we should show our loved ones how much they mean at all times, and equally, we should show good will & peace to all people always. 2. chritmas has just become far too commercial. its already lost its true meaning. it seems now, more about getting the right present, not letting the young ones go without this year's must-have thing and eating & drinking too much. 3. christmas originated from a pagan festival, introduced into christianity so that pagans felt they weren't loosing all their traditional ways if they became christian (either become christian or die! - so they had little choice really!) 4. christmas, this wonderful, caring, sharing time of year, is probably the time of most family arguments!!! possibly about money, presents, over indulgence in alcohol, where to spend christmas.... i'm sure there are other points, but i'd be interested to hear the views of others...
