Gift bags or wrapped presents?

I don't know why, but I'm always a bit disappointed if I receive a present in a gift bag rather than wrapped. I know it's petty. But it's like someone didn't care enough to wrap the present. Is that strange?

Merry Christmas - clipart Christmas gift
I know in my case, if I do give a gift in a gift bag rather than wrapped it's most likely because it is odd shaped and I ran out of extra boxes that would fit it. I do have the courtesy to at least swaddle it in tissue paper before sticking it in the bag, so the surprise isn't so easily ruined. Personally, wrapping gifts is fun...especially when it's something for one of my kids or other kids in the family. They never know when they might have to unwrap 15 layers of paper to get to a gift, lol. It just makes the gift part of Christmas day last a bit longer and make for a few more laughs and smart alleckish (sp?) comments from my uncles. Ah, let me apologize for my tangent. Got off on a roll. Anyway, I understand how that can make you feel if you didn't know there might be a reason behind it. Any small gifts from my mom I can count on a bag from "the cosmetic fairy" (she seriously puts that on there, God love her) simply because my mom is a crappy wrapper and would rather present a neat looking bag of goodies than a bunch of small crumply-wrapped gifts. I'd just about bet you that no one meant anything uncaring toward you by giving you a gift bag. Merry Christmas to you:)

liked the tangent -- every now and then we do the box inside a box inside a box thing -- it just makes it more fun. I usually like the anticipation more than the gift -- the mystery of it and all. you're right -- I know no one means anything uncaring about it. If they didn't care, they wouldn't be giving me a gift. oh and thanks for the present too! Merry Christmas!

Think of it this way, not everyone has the gift of wrapping..like me. Therefore, a gift bag shows they did care, because they didn't want you to see what a horror it would be if they did wrap the gift! hehe Hey, my husband pulls out duct tape when he wraps a gift. I'm sure he wouldn't mind wrapping one up for you! hehe:)

that's true! but I don't know -- I'd still prefer a horribly wrapped present to one in a bag. I don't want sound obsessed or anything. Things come up, and I stink at wrapping too, but there's something special about tearing open a package. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

Wrapped presents are so much more fun to open! And you are right, gift bags do seem kind of like the lazy way to do things but it's the quickest also if someone has a whole bunch of gifts to give.
