studying how we can lower our consumption of natural resources?
seriously, if scientist are really genuis why dont they use there ingenuity in inventing things or making proper ways to reduce our consumption of earth's resources.
do you think it is still possible to invent things like that?
if lazyness is the mother of innovation, i think its time to make it... recyling is the father of invention.

scientists and economics are two different things.
Scientists also need resources to find a way to use alternative resources. Lets take the example of cars, nowadays it is completely possible to mass produce productive electric cars (with a little bit of research in back) but this is NOT profitable for the big car companies (GM, etc...). They want the cars to consume fuel as they make more money because of it.
The main problem is that big car companies care about how much money they earn at the end of the month, not about what is best for the world.
Also, I am an aspiring researcher and well, to conduct some research of that intensity a lot of money is needed to not only conduct experiments but to pay for the scientists. Its not laziness, its greed.
