Why I would not want to work in the zoo as a trainer.

There is an article about a Siberian Tiger on the CNN website that attacked its trainer. This is why I would not want to be a trainer at a zoo or be too close to a tiger or any other dangerous animal. It looks like the trainer may lose one of her arms but is even more fortunate just to be alive. I think Tigers are beautiful animals but would not want to get that close to one, regardless of whether it was trained or not. How do you feel about this situation or how do you feel about Tigers and other dangerous animals? http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/12/22/tiger.attack.ap/index.html

It can be dangerous to anyone in the zoo since some of those animals are strong and could possibly break out of their cage or whatever they may be in. There was a case a while ago where someone visiting the zoo got eaten by a lion, though it was her fault for climbing over the fence and into the lions den.

Hmm.. beside that.. I am not really like animal.. I just love cat.. that;s why I have no interest at all to be trainer at the zoo. Because some people say if you want to be trainer.. you must have big guts and love the animal.. because if you don't have it.. the animal wiil think you are enemy and attack you.. hmm.. so scary

You are very welcome and I still remember a couple years ago a customer went to the DC zoo and got eaten by a lion after she climbed over the fence and into the lions den. This is a true story. It was her fault but that tells you how wild and vicious these animals can be when you are close to them.

I think trained or not, they are still wild animals and highly dangerous. If a human is trained properly, then the human will know how to escape alive and comprehend the risk one is taking when one enters the domain of said animal. I am happy to read that the trainer is ok...meaning alive. It could have been far worse.

They are very wild animals and you always have to take every precaution when you are working or training them. Yes, she could have been worse off than she is now.

What anyone working with animals such as tigers etc has to remember at all times is they are WILD animals. It doesn't matter if they are born and raised in capitivity, they are designed to hunt and kill their food, defend themselves and territory. Training can not overcome instinct. Animals have moods just as humans do. They can be bored, or excited, have hormonal surges or hormonal loss. They can't tell us if they are having an off day or if they are irritable. They can only react to a situation as it happens. I wouldn't mind one bit working with such animals because I know I would have to remember to remain respectful of the possible instinctual reactions at all times.

THe job of a zoo trainer is never publiscised to be a safe one, but for nature and animal lovers, this job is a rewarding experience. It suits some people, other just dont see the point of putting one's self in harms way every day on the job.

I can still remember seeing a Siberian Tiger at Moscow Zoo many years ago, and it was certainly not the kind of animal that I would like to get very close to. There are many creatures that have the power and ability to kill a mere human will ease, so I cannot understand why anyone would willingly take risks of that nature. It is not as though training an animal is necessary or serves any practical purpose, so why try to teach an animal to behave in a way contrary to it's nature?

Working in a zoo can be real fun and then again it can turn into a nightmare.

As much as I like wild animals, I don't like to be anywhere near them. They're good to look at, but not to be with.

I can see why you wouldn't want to be a trainer and I don't think I would want to be one either. But lots of jobs have risks associated with them so it goes with the job. But on the other hand, I think people do those kind of jobs because they want to and the danger doesn't mean anything to them. Its a chance they take. Not me...the less risk the better.lol

I would avoid being the trainer of dangerous animals like a tiger. Some of the other ones might not be too bad though. Yes, all jobs come with some kind of risk and I am sure she knew something like this could happen and hope she will survive.

I think all trainers and people who have anything to do with wild animals have to continue to realize that these animals deserve a respect and are dangerous. I think sometimes they can let their guard down and start to become comfortable. The one thing they tell you over and over during any animal education is to remember these are wild animals and will always be so. It's sad to see it happen though.

I agree that it was very sad what happened to her and hopefully she will be okay. They are very pretty to look at but need to stay away from them and other wild animals.
