Who is regarded as the 'Father of Surgery'?

CHARAK is considered to be the father of surgery. I wont be able to tell you the time period in which he lived , but his book CHARAK SANHITA is still considered to be a classic by Sanskrit scholars.

I haven't heard of Charak, when did he live? This was in the ancient world or middle ages at the latest, I take it?
