religion - to fight or unite?

do you think we need religion in its narrow sense? why can't we take the essence of all religions, which is the same, to live a peaceful and harmonious life, instead of fighting amongst ourselves in the name of religion? all the religions advocate brotherhood and peace, so what are we fighting about? what do you think? let us know. thanks.
