As your avatar seems to be a footballer, might I recommend Vicenza (just north of Venice), where the home fans hum what seems to be Marys Boy Child by Johnny Mathis before home games. Very surreal.

I've only been in the north, around Tuscany. But it's breathtaking. You have Pisa and Florence there. Also, you can head off to the mountains or to the coast. La Spezia and... le Cinque Terre (?I can't remember the exact name) are on the coast. I went when I was seven and I can just remember seeing these lads diving off of cliffs into the sea. It was beautiful. Napoli is somewhere my Italian teacher told me never to go to. Lots of crime, apparantly :/

Plan to visit Sorrento! It is a beautiful area, where they make jewlery boxes and other things made of different types of inlaid wood. Beautiful!!! Plus, it's close to Mt. Vesuvius and Pompei, which are must-sees for any history buff! I love all of Italy, and anywere you go, you'll enjoy yourself, I'm sure. It's beautiful!

I adore Rome. I go every year in May for 4 days. Generally, I am not a city person, I love countryside and beaches but Rome is a real exception. It's beautiful - loads of history, architecture, great to walk round, easy public transport and the people are just fantastic! I've heard that Venice is gorgeous too, though very expensive. I went to Florence when I was 7 so I probably wasn't old enough to appreciate it.
