Entry-level inkjets This lengthy roundup focuses on the expense of consumables and overall cost of use, in addition to print quality. Six low-cost inkjet printers receive ratings. The winner here is the Epson Stylus Photo R240, with "superb" print quality and lower running costs. The Dell 720 is "The cheapest unit tested, but running costs are very high. Print quality is among the worst we saw and speed among the slowest." The Canon Pixma iP2200 gets a good rating, but this model isn't available in the U.S. The HP Deskjet 5940 also does well (but not as well as the Epson).

his review from PC World talks about the "catchy extras" that are finding their way onto many inkjet printers. PC World's list of top-rated photo printers includes the Canon Pixma iP6600D (a Best Buy), the HP Photosmart 8250, the HP Photosmart 8050, the Canon Pixma iP5200R and the Epson Stylus Photo R340. The reviewer says that the Canon Pixma iP6600D has the largest LCD they've ever seen on an inkjet. It's also PictBridge compatible and has slots for multiple media cards. Another nice feature is that paper input includes two full-sized paper trays. The iP6600D took 45 seconds to print a 5 x 7-inch photo, while the 8250 took 29 seconds, and the Epson Stylus Photo R340 was much slower, printing at 82 seconds
