Does anybody care about an honorary knighthood by the queen?

When the queen gives an actor, singer, etc., an honorary knighthood, does anybody really give a flying fig? I mean, I'm not from England, and from where I stand she doesn't have much in the way of power anyway.. so what does it really mean when somebody like Bono or Anthony Hopkins gets knighted?

Yes it does. I just wonder.. the Queen may be a popular figure, but I don't think she has any real power? I could be wrong, but I think the Royal Family is more of a show piece in England? So I just wonder how great of an honor it is for her to knight somebody? It is neat, though. There are a lot of musicians and actors I like who have been knighted. I think it's cool for somebody to be called "Sir", or to have the 'Sir" in front of their name. :)

it probablt means quite a lot to them, not many people in the world ever get knighted and its a nice way of celebrating their accomplishments and all the good work they have done. Also Sir Anthony Hopkins is Welsh so he would be a real knight not an honorary one. I think it probably means more to britains than anyone else, for obvious reasons

I love Anthony Hopkins, so he deserves pretty much any accolades he receives. :)

I always thought it would be cool to be knighted, but alas I'm not from England, so I can't be knighted. Still I think the rules for knighthood are getting a bit lax for celebrities.
