Karma has several meanings.
1. Karma: Fruits of actions good and bad brought forward from the previous births. This definition is for those who believe in rebirths. This type of carry forward karma is of three types: samchita (accumulated through series of births). Praarabdha (just from last birth). Aagaami (this birth's actions and their consequences). Hindu philosophy strictly dictates that nobody including the supreme God cannot change the consequences. One must invariably enjoy/suffer. Last year, the Head of the Kanchi monastery was arrested and for some time he had to stay behind bars awaiting bail. He was taking the help of top attorneys who charge millions for getting him out of the cases and was enamoured discussing legal implications.
If some ordinary persons were arrested, he would have given a speech that "sanchita karma" of past births should invariably be suffered and that there was no choice. He would also have added that only after exhausting all the karma, a person would be entitled to deliverance from the cycle of births and rebirths.
But the religious Head himself will not like to exhaust his karma.
Other karmas will be explained, if readers show interest.

I apologise for the double negative used: "Nobody including Supreme God cannot change the consequences" should read as "Nobody including Supreme God can change the consequences of actions carried forward from past births".
Since I have come again, more comments:
This principle of silently suffering the actions of past births is known as "karma theory". It has done incalculable harm to India, because people became resigned to their fate and learnt to live lives of slaves from 1001 to 1857.
No nation should therefore encourage its citizens to believe in the "Karma from past births theory" also called "Karma Siddhaanta".
