A good teacher is patient and understanding. They know their subject and can make it come alive and make students learn. I've had a number of good teachers, mostly in college. I took an intro to theatre class which was interesting and I learned a lot there. I also had a good teacher of non fiction writing. But, one of my best teachers was for one of my worst subjects. Math. He had incredible patience, and although I'll never be a mathematician, I got one of the few A's I've ever had on a math test in his class and managed a B for the semester.

I think the signs of a good teacher is one who cares about the students. The teacher encourages and supports the students in their studies, develop their social skills and at no time do they ever harm the self-esteem of the student.

Yep, you said it rightly - self esteem of the student is so important. I believe a good teacher is one who believes in her students - believe that they can perform up to their capability, one who builds them up and not tear them down, one who shows no favouratism. I had one such teacher when I was in secondary one. She was my form teacher then. Do you believe I met her 20 years later when she was the principal of a primary school. I had the chance to work together with her! She is still the same Mrs Tan I knew when I was a 13 year old.
