Do you think that the United States should cut back on foreign spending?

The United States spends so much money helping foreign countries that they neglect their own country. I am not against foreign spending, but I find it hard to justify spending millions of dollars helping less fortunate people in other countries when the number of homeless people in America continues to rise, there are housing shortages, healthcare is a mess, etc, etc. Shouldn't Bush and the government spend more time and money on the country they were elected to run?

I think we send too much money overseas, but most of it is from treaties and agreements that are hard to get out from under without causing more problems. As far as "neglecting" our own... you couldn't be more wrong. There are billions spent every year on programs to help the needy (and the not so needy). I've been disabled for 5 years now and (between the government and my church) i've never once gone hungry. True, there are people going without in our nation, but they aren't doing it because there aren't resources for them. More often than not, those going without either don't know how to access the aid, or they have chosen not to use it... or they have made themselves ineligible for it.

We spend Billions on "our own". Money isn't the problem.

Money is the problem as well as mismanagement of the money they do have. I am glad when I hear stories about someone getting help with thier situation. However, this is not the sinario for most. I was in a bad place many years ago. My husband and I were both out of work. No money coming in at all my daughter was only five years old at that time. All I ask was for social services to help me with food stamps for a month till we got back on our feet. Well I was told that we make too much money. What do you mean too much money? Well my husband was getting a whole five hundred a month in unemployment. They did not take my bills into consideration. They just turned me down. I guess the only way to get help from the governement is to be from another country. They system is broke.

I am sorry but the US spends way too much overseas. There are some state where people only make minimum wage which is $5.15 and then they have to put a roof over their heads and food on the table. This is very hard to do on that kind of money. There are other states that the cost of living is so high most have to live somewhere else and commute in. Maybe if we spent more money on US schoos our kids would not be going to schools in trailers. This is happening in most states in the US. Maybe if we did not send so much money overseas we could do something about the cost of medication in the US. The problem is that we can see the need of other countries more than we can see the need right in our own back yard. The system is broke and needs fixed.

I think it will always be a sore spot with the Americans. We have so many out there screaming they hate us, yet we throw money and aid in so many forms at them. We have dying people here in our own homeland, people without health insurance, elderly unable to maintain their homes and live comfortable after years of service to their country as law abiding and tax paying citizens, we have children suffering so many atrocities right here in our own back yard yet the government wastes away money left and right on other things and pays less and less attention here at home.

I Dont Agree with people saying U.S should cut back spending Because The money isnt being waisted it is for the personal benefits lets talk about the money being given to pakistan.Do you know how useful pakistan is for U.S since a lot of terrorist has ben arrested and hasbeen handled to U.s By pakistan.Another thing is the geographical location pakistan is in the center of asia.Specially near "China" so i think you got what i mean.So that money is going in the favour of America.

I agree that we spend to much money abroad, how ever we spend to much money hear as well. If the government would quite mandateing what ins. companys MUST have on there health coverage and let the consomer decide on what they want, heathcare would be MORE affordable to all, therefor the government wouldn't spend so much on it, Its NOT the governments resonseablty. Its also not the governments resonseblty to,feed, cloth, and house anyone. If left to it and people were aloud to keep more of their hard earned money, they would be more inclined to donate to churches and charatys And they can do their jobs to get people back on there feet, not the government juct giving it away for life.

Well granted the poor in other countries are often way poorer than American poor, we should still be keeping more money for our country and OUR country's problems/

This is a complex issue. Has to do with government, international relations, diplomacy. Many factors, I really can not say much about it.

I think the US should cut back on foreign spending, domestic spending, pork barrel spending, etc... etc... We cannot keep going on racking up deficit after deficit. I've heard some economists say the deficit is actually a good thing, but I don't see how. Granted I'm not an economist with a PhD, but then I'm not educated beyond my intelligence either.

We need to start in our own backyard. We need to call in the debts from every other toy country that owes us, that should about put the US in the black for starters, pull out of Iraq & let them put in some toy tyrant and concentrate on our borders here at home
