Did you know that glaciers are melting at a rate of 9% every decade?

Needless to say, this is disastrous. Ireland alone will have many more inland lakes, not to mention much of the coast will disappear. And of course there will be way more flooding, and i don't know what will happen to the polar bears, seals and penguins. And it's too late to stop it, even it all pollution was to stop tomorrow, it would still take hundreds of years for the global warming carbons to disappear from the atmosphere....and we've no one to blame but ourselves.

I was just watching something on the news about large chunks breaking off the glaciers and how fast they are melting. And then there was something on the news the other day about polar bears becoming an endangered species. What a shame that we are making such a negative impact on the environment.

I know, the earth was fine before we came along! And it's amazing how some people can be so disrespectful, nature doesn't need us, but we need it.

I'm sure there are developers in Ireland who are happy about this--think of all the new lakeside golf courses they can build alongside all the new lakes! If I owned any oceanfront property I think I would sell it, before it becomes under-ocean property!

that's all we need, new golf courses! Personally i'd get into the boating business, why drive around the lakes when you can go through them?!

The earth has gone through many cycles over it's long life...and will no doubt go through many more. Prior to the last Ice Age the earth was for the most part tropical, as evidenced by fossils, land mass today was ocean bottom thousands of years ago. As always the life forms on this planet will adjust, evolve or work their environment to suit their needs. Science allows us to think it (we) know a lot, but science also acknowleges it knows not nearly enough.

But there were no people around during the last ice age, so we don't know how we're going to adapt ourselves. But thanks for reminding me of that fact..:)

I know. It's scarey. All we can do is try to slow it down a little by doing our bit with the environment.

unfortunately i think it's too late, even if we were to stop now it would take 100's of years for the global warming gasses to vanish from the atmosphere..:(

It is scary when you think about it. We might not be here to witness all of this but our children will and their children will..We should definately do something about this.

That's amazing emisle. The Tsunami that hit our country(india)was also due to global warming(as described by the scientists). The great Himalayas where every year there is less and less snowfall clearly indicates the gravity of the situation.
