What is the real meaning of Christmas to you? For my family it is the birth of Jesus. Unfortunatly we seem to talk about Santa, frosty and roudolph more than Jesus' birth. This holiday has become so commercialalized. What do you do to bring the real meaning of Christmas into your celebrations?

In my place, poverty is one, if not the, biggest problem. We are a Catholic country (we also have Muslims and other religions) and we also believe it is the Nativity of Christ. Yes, Christmas is also widely commercialized here. But because poverty is prevalent, we cannot help but think about them especially during Christmastime. I understand that problems like these should be addressed at any time of the year but it is only during Christmas that ordinary people like myself can organize and be able to share the spirit of God's grace to these people because at other times, the government should be the one to provide for them. We have an anti-mendicancy law here in the Philippines and if you are familiar with this law, you will understand why ordinary citizens cannot deal with these homeless people. But then again, this is a whole new issue and a debatable one at that, so I would rather not go deeper into that. I might even start a discussion with that as my topic. I would just end this by saying, Christmas is a time for giving and sharing... and every day should be Christmas day. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
