There are many mods the have been created on Half-Life. One of the best are Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, Vampire Slayer and Natural Selection, however, my favorite is also Day of Defeat. It totally rocks!

i think dod is the best, becuase it is really realistic. around the WWII time, there wasnt really any good "armor/bulletproof vests" and hits were very deadly. DOD portrays the realism with a lot of 1 hit kills (body shots). its grafix arent the best, but its ok for me :)

They Hunger is definitely my all times favourite. But there are others too. Recently I tried Paranoia. It's a russian mod but has subtitles in English and it is absolutely mind blowing! I thought I was playing a HL2 modification, not Half life 1.
